WELCOME TO SISTRATA, MY DIGITAL HAVEN WHERE I EXPLORE AND EXPAND ON QUESTIONS REGARDING SEXUALITY, FEMININITY, OBJECTIFICATION, AGENCY, FRUSTRATION AND ALL OTHER SORT OF MATTERS REGARDING THE DAILY LIVED EXPERIENCE OF A WOMAN.

ABOUT THE ARTIST:

I am a Finnish artist currently based in Tallinn, Estonia. I grew up in Tampere, Finland, but never felt like I quite fit into the small-town environment I came from. At 19, I moved to Amsterdam, where I ended up staying for six years and completed a BA in Media and Culture at the University of Amsterdam. I am now continuing my studies at the Estonian Academy of Arts, pursuing an MA in Contemporary Art and bringing together the research and questions I have collected along the way with my artistic practice.

My work starts with me. I use my own experiences, emotions, relationships and struggles as material, often allowing them to lead into questions that are bigger than myself. I am interested in sexuality, femininity, love, power, shame, violence and the expectations placed on women. I work across video, sound, performance, text and everyday materials, often using humour, absurdity and confrontation alongside vulnerability. I am interested in where the personal becomes political, and in using art as a way to question and make sense of the world around me.
